Port development

We develop our ports strategically and responsibly to deliver enduring value for future generations and industries.

All physical infrastructure development across our land and waters is subject to Southern Ports’ approval through a two-part process:

Development approval

During this stage of approvals, we capture critical information regarding the proposed development, and how it aligns to our Sustainable Development Guidelines and common Government approvals. 

Construction approval

Prior to commencing construction, we capture plans on how construction will take place, including how the proponent will adhere to any monitoring, safety and heritage requirements. 

Important to note

No construction is to commence until a port construction approval is obtained and a corresponding lease and/or license is in place. If you need a lease and/or license, please contact us to speak to our Commercial Team.

Sustainable Development Guidelines

Guidance on the required criteria, minimum standards and performance for both land and marine infrastructure at Southern Ports is available in our Sustainable Development Guidelines. These apply to any development taking place across our ports including modifications and new infrastructure.
