Regional ports like ours are key economic enablers for the industries and communities that surround them, and are essential to ensuring regional economies can function and grow.

With capabilities to support multiple industries across 40+ commodities we’re also diversifying the economy.

We support regional development.

We drive investment into our regions to support trade and port activity, providing vital infrastructure for our operations, but our role in developing our regions extends beyond our port gates into community infrastructure and development.

From large scale public road and infrastructure projects to heritage renewal and environmental initiatives, we are committed to growing our regions.

We have a critical role in WA's supply chain.

Southern Ports sits at the centre of an interconnected supply chain, enabling the seamless movement of goods between regional producers, transport networks and global markets.

We have an evolving role in the energy transition supply chain.

We deliver for industry.

We ensure imports critical to local industries have a pathway into our regions - a capability that is crucial to future requirements, particularly within the agriculture sector, and to support the state's energy transition and uplift in local manufacturing.

We’re a major regional employer.

Close to 80 per cent of our workforce is based in our regions, with our largest cohort located in Esperance.

Local employment means our regions thrive through skills development, local spend, and support for local businesses, schools, healthcare services and wider community building.

We’re part of the fabric of our communities.

We’re passionate about making a difference and we support organisations in our regions that deliver meaningful outcomes like Foodbank WA.

More broadly we’ve invested more than $1.5 million into community organisations over the past five years to deliver grassroots programs, projects and events across education, sustainability, maritime and more.

We’re also working with local government authorities to deliver a range of regional events and initiatives that deliver real value for our communities.

According to Ports Australia’s State of Trade, ports move 99 per cent of Australia’s international trade by volume, contributing to $264 billion annually to Gross State Product. Around two thirds of this trade comes from Western Australia.

Southern Ports is also a strong contributor to the Western Australian ports industry which facilitates:

Critically, we enable the resources sector that contributes $11.7 billion to the WA Government and spends $114 billion across the state including $5+ billion across the South West, Great Southern and Goldfields-Esperance regions.
