Turkey Point Access Road and Bridge

In September 2025, our largest capital works project, a new $34 million road and bridge was opened to the public at the Port of Bunbury to provide an alternative route to Turkey Point increasing safety and unlocking future trade potential.

About the project:

The Turkey Point Access Road and Bridge project, which was funded by Royalties for Regions, connects Leschenault Drive to the popular recreational spot at Turkey Point with a new roundabout, 600-metre single carriageway road passing over the Preston River via a 90-metre-long bridge.

The community access also features a pedestrian and cycle path connecting Estuary Drive to an upgraded informal parking area and foreshore trail.

It creates a safer route for community members accessing Turkey Point, diverting public traffic away from the Port of Bunbury which records more than 100,000 heavy vehicle movements each year.

By separating port traffic and public road users, it will enable Southern Ports to progress future planning and development of the Port of Bunbury into the future.

The project commenced in 2022 and was delivered in two stages – geotechnical and site preparation works, and construction.

Our key partners in the successful delivery of the project included GHD, Fulton Hogan, Tranen, Leschenault Community Nursery, Dolphin Discovery Centre and Gnaala Karla Booja.

The new access road and bridge was opened by Premier Roger Cook MLA, Minister for Ports and Regional Development Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for South West Don Punch MLA, and Southern Ports Chair Ian Shepherd and CEO Keith Wilks.
