Steve Lewis Regional Scholarship

Southern Ports partners with Curtin University to deliver an annual regional scholarship to provide financial support for passionate individuals from the Great Southern, South West and Goldfields-Esperance regions who are looking to extend their education.

The Steve Lewis Regional Scholarship, named after Southern Ports' former Chief Executive Officer Steve Lewis, is provided to three students annually – one from each of Southern Ports’ regions.

The students receive a total of up to $50,000 as a cash stipend of $6,250 per semester.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Current or future student (preference given to first year students).

  • Undergraduate degrees in Faculty of Science & Engineering or Faculty of Business & Law.

  • From the South West, Great Southern or Goldfields-Esperance regions of WA.

  • Willing to relocate or has relocated to the campuses of Kalgoorlie or Bentley.

  • Experiencing financial hardship.

  • Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Humanitarian Visa holder.

About Lahni Davis

Albany-raised aspiring marine scientist Lahni Davis was awarded the inaugural Southern Ports’ Steve Lewis Regional Scholarship in 2024.

The then 19-year-old, who was in her first year of Advanced Science at Curtin University said she grew up in a family that “was always at the beach whenever we could be” and that marine science had been her passion from an early age.

About Thomas Hage

Margaret River-raised aspiring engineer Thomas Hage is the recipient of the 2025 Steve Lewis Regional Scholarship.

Thomas said receiving the Steve Lewis Regional Scholarship would be “life changing.” 

“I’m equally excited about the opportunity to get hands on experience and learn from people already working in my field as I am about the financial support,” Thomas said.
