From November 25 – December 10, the McGowan Government is running a campaign to raise awareness and educate the community about the prevalence of domestic and family violence against women.

The statistics are confronting, with WA Police responding to incidents of this type every eight minutes and more than 65,000 family and domestic violence incidents recorded in the 2018-2019 financial year alone.

Southern Ports is supporting the campaign by focusing on the serious issue of domestic violence within our regional communities. Research has shown that women living in regional area are more likely to experience family and domestic violence than those in urban areas. There is also evidence to show that women find difficulty in accessing services in remote locations – more information can be found here.

In addition a range of support services are available, including:

  • Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline – 1800 007 339
  • Men’s Domestic Violence Helpline – 1800 000 599
  • 1800 RESPECT – is a national sexual assault, domestic and family violence counselling service.
