PUBLIC NOTICE - PORT OF ESPERANCE

During routine fumigation of the MV Century Shanghai grain vessel on Saturday 9 November 2024, a sealed canister of Fumitoxin, an agricultural insecticide, was inadvertently released overboard into Port of Esperance waters by a fumigation team onboard the vessel.

Southern Ports continues to support relevant authorities in the coordination of the search for the unaccounted canister of insecticide. 

Regular patrols of local beaches and waters in and around Esperance Bay are continuing. 

The canister remains unaccounted for and may wash up onto local beaches over the coming days.

The canister cannot be opened by hand and requires a mechanical instrument to open. Any member of the public who locates the canister is asked not to handle it and immediately contact Triple Zero (000).
