RADIO TRANSMISSIONS
Local marine Notice 04/2019 is cancelled.
The Port operates on VHF channels 16 and 12. The Port of Esperance VHF Radio is manned during office hours only and one hour prior to Pilot on Board time. Transmissions outside of these hours are unlikely to receive a response from the port.
Masters are advised of the requirement to broadcast their movements within the commercial port of Esperance on VHF channel 12, these transmissions do not require a response from the port.
A listening watch is to be maintained at all times on VHF channels 12 and 16.
Masters or Pilots of commercial vessels departing from or arriving to anchorages or berths are to make a brief radio transmission on VHF Channel 12, identifying their ship and communicating details of their intended movements as outlined in the following examples:
Proceeding to an Anchorage from sea:
“All ships Port of Esperance, all ships Port of Esperance, all ships Port of Esperance. This is [NAME OF SHIP] Entering Port Limits and proceeding to [NAME OF ANCHORAGE], out”
Departing an anchorage:
“All ships, all ships, all ships. This is [NAME OF SHIP] departing Anchorage [NAME OF ANCHORAGE] inbound to berth number [NUMBER OF BERTH], out”
Departing a berth:
“All ships, all ships, all ships. This is [NAME OF SHIP] departing berth number [NUMBER OF BERTH], out”
For a tug or pilot launch assisting a departing ship, when leaving the mooring pen:
“All ships, all ships, all ships. This is [NAME OF TUG/PILOT LAUNCH] departing tug pen for the departure of [NAME OF SHIP] [NUMBER OF BERTH], out”
For a tug assisting an arriving ship, when leaving the tug pen:
“All ships, all ships, all ships. This is [NAME OF TUG/PILOT LAUNCH] departing tug pen for the arrival of [NAME OF SHIP] inbound to berth number [NUMBER OF BERTH], out.”
All other vessels operating within the dredged port area are to make a broadcast identifying their vessel, the location to which they are proceeding and the nature of the work they are performing. A similar broadcast must be made on completion.
