Pilot Station Precinct revitalisation

The Port of Albany’s heritage listed Pilot Station Precinct is undergoing a transformation to turn the underutilised space into a vibrant gathering space for the local community and tourists alike.

About the project:

Funded by Royalties for Regions, the $8.3 million Pilot Station Precinct project will transform the heritage-listed Pilot Station at the Port of Albany into a vibrant community precinct.

Designs are centred around the repurposing of the heritage-listed Pilot Crew Quarters and Coxswain’s Quarters buildings.

The plans will breathe new life to the building and surrounds, adding a playground, landscaping, bike facilities and other amenities. Allowance for mobile catering facilities such as a coffee van has also been made as well as internal and outdoor seating and open grassed areas.

The space will take advantage of the unique views overlooking the channel between King George Sound to Princess Royal Harbour, and further opportunities to activate the space such as interpretation centre elements, a gallery and workshop, are also being considered. 

Key contractors include H+H Architects, with a construction contractor soon to be appointed.
