Across our ports we have 14 berths that underpin our trade facilitation, and 11 jetties that support port logistics.
Like all of our assets, our berthing infrastructure is designed differently to host a diverse range of vessels, cargo handling assets and trade opportunities.

Port of Albany
Our Berth 1 at Albany, which was constructed in the late 1950s, is a general purpose berth that often hosts cruise and specialty vessels. It hosts our Transit Shed which has a long history but today is commonly used as a cruise passenger terminal, stores our equipment and houses staff offices.

This general-purpose berth is true to its nature underpinning both fertiliser and grain trade at the Port of Albany, while also hosting cruise and specialty vessels.
It is the oldest berth in Albany, built in 1955, and was originally designed for much smaller vessels than those that visit today.

The busiest berth at the Port of Albany, Berth 3 predominantly facilitates grain trade as well as silica sand exports.
The shiploader and connected conveyors that sits on top of the berth are owned and operated by CBH.

Berth 6, constructed in 2006, is a dolphin berth that typically supports the export of woodchips. It has a larger depth than the other berths in Albany and has infrastructure permanently fixed to the berth owned by QUBE.

Common vessel positioning |
At our Port of Albany we have two tug jetties in the tug marina which allows for mooring of two tugboats.
These are currently home to Svitzer Australia’s two Z-Peller tugs, Maryon and Karoline which have 60MT bollard pull – 4,000kW.
This jetty offers mooring availability for Southern Ports’ pilot boat, which at Albany is the Mokare, as well as a number of lines and surveyors vessels.
This jetty, located to the east of Berth 3, offers mooring line availability to ensure vessels can be moored appropriately.
Two jetties, located one to the west and one to the east of Berth 6, allows for mooring lines to be secured for vessels that come alongside the berth.
Port of Bunbury
Located at the Outer Harbour, Berth 1 is a general-purpose berth often used for cruise and specialty vessel as well as hosting any vessels requiring maintenance.

Berth 2, located at the Outer Harbour, is often used for methanol imports for local manufacturing as well as cruise and specialty vessels, vessels that are undertaking maintenance and also where the tugs moor.

Alcoa owns and operates this dolphin berth located on the northern side of the Inner Harbour. It is designed as a specialised bulk alumina loading and bulk caustic soda discharging berth.

This general-purpose berth is located on the south side of the Inner Harbour, close to large shore side open storage areas used for laydown.
True to its nature, it does not have any fixed infrastructure on the berth, allowing it to be utilised for a wide range of operations.

Berth 6 is privately owned and operated by Worsley Alumina. The dolphin berth is located on the northern side of the Inner Harbour and is designed as a specialised bulk alumina loading and bulk caustic soda discharging berth.

One of our most diverse berths in terms of trade types and customers, Berth 8 is a multiuser berth located on the northern side of the Inner Harbour.
A permanent shiploader, owned by Southern Ports is fixed to the berth, connected to a network of conveyors and shed storage.

This jetty is primarily used for mooring line activities to secure vessels alongside Berth 8.
Port of Esperance
One of the busiest berths in vessel visits, Berth 1 is critical in supporting export for agriculture and forestry industries.
It has CBH-owned infrastructure permanently fixed to the berth, with space for mobile shiploader facilities to be brought in for woodchip exports

This land-backed general purpose berth supports the most diverse types of trade, facilitating both imports and exports. These include fertilisers, sulphur, fuel and nickel and copper concentrates.
It has the only container crane of its size that exists in WA outside of the metropolitan area.

This jetty, located to the south of Berth 3, is used for mooring activities, to secure lines from vessels alongside the dolphin berth.
Located between Berth 2 and Berth 3, the Tug Pen Jetty allows for the mooring of two tugboats (with the third tug moored on a buoy in the bay).
This Tug Pen jetty is commonly used by Boluda Towage’s tugs Lilian Mac (70 tonne bollard pull, with 5,632 horsepower), Shoal Cape (68 tonne bollard pull, with 5,590 horsepower), Hellfire Bay (68 tonne bollard pull, with 5,590 horsepower) and Cape Pasley (65 tonne bollard pull, with 5,400 horsepower). All tugs have Azimuth stern drive.
The Pilot Jetty at the Port of Esperance is home to its pilot boat, the Kwilina, as well as its lines and services vessel the William Stewart. It is currently located in the Tug Pen and in between the Tug Pen Jetty and the Berth 3 Dolphin Jetty.
True to its namesake, this jetty is located at the end of Taylor Street and has been used for cruise tender visits as well as a landing for local tourism operators. It has come to the end of its asset life and is partially closed.
