New digital equipment funded through the Southern Ports Community Investment Program will open the door to a new way of managing club records including the race results for the Albany Cycling Club.

Southern Ports Chief Executive Officer Keith Wilks said that the essence of the Community Investment Program is to support grass root organisations to make a difference in the region.

“It’s important to us to build strong regions and one of the vital ways we do this is to support community groups and clubs to grow and adapt for the future,” said Mr Wilks.

“We know from our own port operations that good governance and digital technology are vital for growth, so we’re proud to support the Albany Cycling Club with the purchase of their own digital assets to ensure they can continue to benefit the community.”

Albany Cycling Club President Brett Dal Pozzo said that the Club and its committee had taken a number of steps to improve its record management system and the committee experience.

“We’re grateful for the support of Southern Ports that has facilitated the purchase of a new laptop and software for our committee members to use,” said Mr Dal Pozzo.

“It will mean that we’ll have the latest technology to build a record system that will ensure our club records including our race results will be available for decades to come and that our committee won’t have to use their personal devices to manage the Club.”

“We will also be using the laptop on race days to record the riders handicaps and race times.”

“We’ve undertaken a lot of change over the past few years to make sure our club is running at its best and one of those ways has been to continue improving our governance of club records.”

The Albany Cycling Club was first established in 1898 and has been riding around the streets and gravel roads of Albany since.

The Club welcomes members of all ages and abilities and has an annual calendar of races including time trials and social rides with some members meeting daily for their rides.

Southern Ports has provided more than $100,000 in its latest round of funding across more than 35 groups in Albany, Bunbury and Esperance.

Applications are now open for the next round of funding and will close on 15 August. To apply, visit southernports.com.au/corporate/community-investment-program.
