Multi-stage operational technology upgrades will be rolled out at Southern Ports over the next two years to improve performance, efficiencies and security at the ports of Albany, Bunbury and Esperance.

Minister for Ports Hon. David Michael MLA has announced leading technology integration company Accenture has been awarded a $13.6 million contract to design, supply and install the upgrades.

He said the economy relies on port infrastructure, “so continued advancement of these assets across our regional ports is vital”.

The project will include the replacement of components and significant upgrades to process control systems integral to the function of port infrastructure, including conveyors and ship loaders.

Southern Ports Chief Executive Officer Keith Wilks said operational technology upgrades are a critical project that will help to advance our digitally enabled ports.

“Upgrading our operational technology across all ports will improve performance, enhance security and increase digital integration of our assets with our broader smart systems,” said Mr Wilks.

“This is an opportunity to further align our systems across our ports as much of the technology running our infrastructure was put in place before Southern Ports was formed.

“This is part of our major capital investment program that will see more than $100 million invested in infrastructure upgrades and refurbishments over the next three years.”
