Skylab was the first space station launched and operated by NASA which famously crashed back to earth in 1979. The town of Esperance gained worldwide media attention when pieces of Skylab crash landed across town.
To mark the 40th anniversary of that famous event, the Esperance Ultimate Frisbee Club staged their annual ‘Skylab Classic 2019’ earlier this year. The club supports all flying disc sports and is focused on promoting inclusive events for people of all age and ability and follows the principles of the ‘Act, Belong, Commit’ model.
General Manager Esperance Port, Scott Bates, said the event made a positive contribution to the town.
“The Skylab event 40 years ago created quite a stir internationally and drew attention to our town. Southern Ports is delighted to support this all age event that promotes personal wellbeing and a sense of community,” said Scott.
