Southern Ports is opening the gates at its Port of Bunbury to the public for the first time in almost five years for a very special Picnic at the Port event on Saturday 1 April.
The community is invited to attend the free event, which will run throughout the afternoon and evening from 3pm to 9.30pm.
Picnic at the Port will provide a unique chance to experience the port ‘in action’, with harbour boat tours on offer, an informative port walk, along with sand sculpting and workshops, roving entertainment and a range of other family activities – all set against the backdrop of the operating port.
The day will be topped off by an open-air cinema screening of the movie, Jumanji: The Next Level (rated PG), to be held after sunset.
Regional Manager, Port of Bunbury, Lee Smith said Southern Ports was excited to host the open day.
“Given this is the first time our port has opened its gates to the public since 2017, we have pulled out all of the stops and planned an event that will both bring people together and showcase all that the Port of Bunbury offers our great region,” he said.
“Our team looks forward to providing a sneak-peek into our operations, while delivering an incredible line up of fun activities, which we hope will be enjoyed by many locals, including the hundreds of staff, contractors and other personnel who work here at the Port of Bunbury.
“It’s all part of Southern Ports commitment to building strong ports and strong regions.”
A range of local entertainers, food trucks and stall operators will be dishing out food and fun from 3pm.
There will be something for everyone to enjoy and get involved with – from watching a large scale sand sculpture unfold on the beach, carved by internationally renowned Jenny ‘the Sandcastle Girl’ Rossen, having a laugh with Famous Sharron and local DJ and artist Lewis Horne who will be spinning tunes while event-goers get to work making their own Lego creations, bouncing on a huge pirate ship, adding a creative touch to a 10-metre paint-by-numbers mural or hanging out with Koombana Bay’s very own mermaids!
Ticketholders are encouraged to bring their own blankets, chairs and rugs and enjoy a homemade picnic or purchase food from one of the food trucks.
While event entry is free, tickets are limited and bookings essential, available at Eventbrite (search Picnic at the Port).
Picnic at the Port is a Southern Ports event being generously supported by the following sponsors: QUBE, South32, HSA Marine, Talison, Hexion, Tronox and the South West Development Commission.
